In June of 2013, Jesse Dietschi became the first registered Suzuki Bass Instructor in eastern Canada, and the third in the entire country. He has trained through the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA) with master bass teacher Virginia Dixon, and in 2014 became the Bass Representative on the Board of Directors for the Suzuki Association of Ontario (SAO). In addition to the Suzuki Bass method, Jesse also incorporates the teachings of master bassists and educators like Francois Rabbath, Hal Robinson, and George Vance, as well as jazz and improvisational techniques.
Jesse currently runs a Suzuki Bass studio through the Oakville Suzuki Association in Oakville, Ontario, and is on faculty at St. Andrew’s College in Aurora ON, the Southwestern Ontario Suzuki Institute, and the Alberta Summer Suzuki Institute. Jesse spent several years as the Sessional Jazz Bass Instructor at Brandon University. During his time there, he served as the primary instructor for the undergraduate bass studio, and directed several small ensembles. He also served as the Jazz Bass Instructor at the International Music Camp’s annual Jazz Week for six years, where he taught bass masterclasses, improvising and theory masterclasses, and directed small ensembles.
Jesse is currently accepting both double-bass and electric bass students for lessons in the Oakville, Aurora, and downtown Toronto areas. He is also available to deliver clinics and masterclasses for bass, rhythm sections, small group jazz, improvisation, and composition.
